The 2011 enduro season kicked off over the weekend with the first two rounds of the Husqvarna British Enduro Sprint Championship taking place in Saint Wells, Mid Wales. 2011 sees Ollie move up from Expert to the Elite class and he was under no illusion to the challenges which lay ahead, but confident he could make his mark within the highly competitive class he set a series of blistering times throughout the first day. After catching slower riders on a number of occasions Ollie’s times suffered and he finished the day tenth in class. With the predictable Welsh weather rearing its ugly head for the start of day two the already demanding test became almost unridable in areas, ultimately causing the organisers to cut the day short to only three laps. This mixed with Ollie again catching slower riders who were now struggling to navigate the course meant he could only manage thirteenth overall. A similar story is true for team mate Jamie Paget who, during day one, got faster as the track died out but also found he caught slower riders and struggled manoeuvre the KX450F round stranded riders. Unfortunately the second day didn’t go quite to plan when Jamie was disqualified for “speeding through a restricted area” although his times would have seen him claim eleventh in class.
Ollie Moyce “The whole weekend has been really hard to be honest. The course was difficult and fairly long compared to when we raced at the same venue last year but it’s been good practice for the up and coming European championship. Considering this type of Welsh woodland terrain is best suited to two-strokes I’m really pleased with how my KX250F went; it was nimble through the trees and had plenty of power on the fast open parts. All in all it’s been a tough weekend but I’m really looking forward to the Muntjac at the end of the month”
Jamie Paget “There’s not much I can say really – yesterday was OK but I was hoping to improve on my result during the second day. I’m not happy about being disqualified but it’s just one of those things – what has happened has happened and I’m focussing on the Muntjac now.”
Both riders would like to thank Kawasaki UK, Race FX, Talon, K4 Offroad, Watling Tyres, Acerbis, Akrapovic, ProPrinting.co.uk, MSM Insurance and Body Clinic for all their help.
