At last the waiting was over Kinver hosted their first meeting of the year last weekend at the monster Upton Court track. The club had worked very hard preparing the circuit putting in a few new features along the way. A special thanks must go to Mick Hudson who worked long into Saturday night watering the track.
Sunday started with bright blue skies and a near full paddock with full gates in many classes, there was a slight hitch to proceedings when the transponder cables had to be relayed because of weak readings, but never the less once this problem had been overcome practice soon got underway and the rest of the day passed out with out incident. The track held up very well with lots of positive comments from visiting riders and was rounded off with the trophy presentation featuring Kinvers unique designed awards.
Again with some top riders on championship duties it was a chance for some of Kinver up and coming to grab the head lines, the crowds were not disappointed Michael Hudson in the Junior under 18 maxed out in style with three moto wins for 180 points ahead of cousin James Shand in the MX2 experts who finished with a 2-1-1 for 174 points.
Ricky Chamberlain missed out in MX1 experts finishing fourth overall 8 points behind third place while Gary Bates finished only 5 points behind third place in the MX1 seniors.
Neil Williams flying the flag for the 40 plus age bracket finished a very respectable seventh overall in MX1 experts ahead of son Josh who finished tenth. In the inters class Gareth Williams and Zac Hackett continued their head to head battle this time Gareth coming out on top in seventh place one ahead of Zac on 115 points.
The committee would just like to say thank you to all members and helpers of Kinver Auto for all their hard work leading upto the meeting and again on the day ensuring a great day was had by all.
With the injured Craig Chamberlain out of action with a damaged knee Kinver only had two riders at the Championships last weekend and one at the two stroke championships. Both meetings suffered somewhat from dust with both meetings being cut down to two blocks. Dan Hill finished in 32nd place on 17 points in MX2, while Matt Gordon in MX1’s finished in 26th place scoring 28 points.
In the two stoke championships Sam Price finished a respectable 10th overall on 68 points.
