Jonny Walker wins ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship & Edward Jones wins the Welsh 2 day enduro

In what was another busy and successful weekend for KTM UK supported riders, KTM Off Road Racing team rider Jonny Walker lifted the 2012 ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship with four winning rides at the third and final round of the series held at Adstone, Northants. Handing KTM a double win was now part-time racer Edward Jones, who scooped the top spot in the prestigious Welsh Two Day enduro, held in Mid Wales.

Traditionally run on a Thursday and Friday this year’s Welsh two Day was an extremely wet affair. Despite bright and dry weather before the event heavy rain during the two days of competition resulted in some seriously tough going for the hundreds of competitors entered.

Although now retired from full-time competition, former British and World championship competitor Ed Jones showed that despite no longer being a regular on the British enduro scene he’s still one of the country’s very fastest wet weather racers. Mastering the wet conditions Ed wasn’t the fastest rider at the start of the first day but in topping the timing sheets on the third and fourth special tests took an early and important lead in the Championship class.

On day two riders faced just two special tests. Again proving consistent, despite placing second to Manxman Danny McCanney, Ed’s advantage from the first day was enough to give him the overall win.

Frustratingly for Daryl Bolter day one ended in disappointment as he lost precious time, time that would prevent him from featuring at the top of the Championship class results despite a solid day two performance.

Securing the ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship Jonny Walker delivered four perfect performances at the third and final round of the series, held at Adstone. Despite strong winds the weather, and track, remained dry with Jonny bringing his participation in the series to a close in the best possible way.

Faced with two 20 minute and two 10 minute Endurocross style races, Jonny took command of the event quickly taking to the front in all four races. Making light work of the track Jonny’s four wins brought to an end what has been a hugely successful two weeks period in which he topped the infamous Erzbergrodeo Hare Scramble, placed third at Romaniacs, and claimed the ACU British extreme title.

Jonny Walker: “It was a great day, I really enjoyed it and to come away with the ACU British Extreme Championship title is great. It’s been a really busy few weeks with Erzberg, Romaniacs and now the final British extreme event, but winning Erzberg and now the British extreme title is fantastic. Each of the four races went really well, I got four wins, which I wanted to do, and felt like I rode well in all races. I crashed practicing before the event, which banged my leg up a bit, but apart from riding tense in the first race everything went really well.”
