Jonathan Barragan struggles in Czech Grand Prix

After too many rain stricken GP’s the 2012 FIM MX1 Motocross series finally found some good weather conditions in Loket for the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic. While both the LS Honda Racing team (GP win in 2009 and moto win in 2010) and Jonathan Barragan (two overall podium places) have enjoyed their share of success in Loket, the weekend turned out to be hugely disappointing. Barragan placed 17th overall, but he remains 13th in the MX1 standings with 4 GP’s to go and 200 points up for grabs.

The typical hard-pack soil of Loket offered its normal fast and slippery test. After an encouraging performance in Russia a fortnight ago the six-time MX1 GP winner was looking forward to a strong Czech GP. Sadly Jonathan never seemed to come to terms with the track. On Saturday he steered his Dunlop shod CRF450R to 14th behind Christophe Pourcel.

Overtaking is always difficult on the spectacular Loket track where many riders circulate with similar lap-times.Therefore the start of the moto is even more crucial than everywhere else. The LS Honda Racing rider enjoyed a decent launch to the first thirty-five minute plus two lap sprint. Barragan ran in eighth place on the opening lap when he made costly error that send him to the floor. From 25th he moved through the field to reach a damage-limiting 19th. A stone in his radiator a couple of laps before the end forced the Spaniard eventually to pull out.

Starting just inside the top-20, the second race underlined JB’s struggle for speed and confidence. Barragan only managed to gain a couple of positions to cross the line in 16th place.
Jonathan Barragan: “Things didn’t go well and I didn’t feel good on the track. I’m not feeling confident and this also affecting my motivation. When you’re not happy with your riding it’s even harder to fight for every point. I had some bad luck in the first moto when the bike broke down in the last few laps and I couldn’t finish. For one reason or another, whether for crashes, bad starts or a bad feeling I’m not getting the results and I feel the pressure. I’m riding tense and need to get through this and find some confidence. We we’ll keep on pushing together with the team.”
