Ben Watson competes on a KTM for the Hitachi Construction Machine UK team in the MX2 class of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship. Brother of professional motocross rider Nathan Watson, Ben was born on 5th June 1997 and was doing wheelies and stunts on a bike at the age of four.
However, he soon got bored of the pushbike and his motocross career began in his family’s back garden when he was bought a PW50 as a present. At just six years of age, Ben finished third in his first race, and he rose steadily through the ranks, becoming British champion in the 50cc, 65cc and 85cc classes. He also won the Dutch championship in the 85cc class in 2011.
Over the last couple of years, Ben has continued to enjoy great success on both British and foreign soil. In 2012, he made great progress in the MX2 British Championship with an appearance in round six at Hawkstone Park, Shropshire, and the following year he completed in all of the rounds except one, finishing an impressive 15th overall in the final standings.
2014 has gone even better. In the British Championships, he has picked up five moto podium finishes, finished third overall at Canada Heights and second at FatCat, and currently lies in sixth overall with two rounds to go. He also won the overall MX2 competition at the Pro Nationals Motocross Festival, taking the victory in all three motos.
