UEM and Youthstream presidents met on the 9th of October in Geneva to comment the results of the just finished sporting season and to evaluate possible news to be introduced in 2013.
Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo expressed his full satisfaction for the way the different championships went, in particular the classes 65cc and 85cc with the spectacular final in Matterley Basin in front of 35.000 spectators. He then confirmed Youthstream’s interest in relaunching the Snowmobile European Championship, the intention to introduce the Motocross 150cc 4 stroke class and the need to give a new dimension to the Motocross of European Nations, which should be seen no more as an ineffective copy of the FIM event, but as something completely different and more addressed to the development of young talents.
The two Presidents agreed to change the class and the time of the year and to have this event at the beginning of the season and focus on the Youth, who are the core target of the UEM Championships. Therefore this event will be held on the 21st April 2013 in Castelnau de Levis in France. The classes will be 85cc, 125cc, 250cc and the same rules and format as now will be used, but with the limit to 21 years old for riders of 250cc. In addition at the same venue but with a separate race the Youthstream would like to have the Motocross of European Nations for Women, with bikes of their choice (125/2 stroke or 250/2 stroke).
There will be 2 women riders per country, they will make 2 races and we take the best 3 results. Clearly the results of the Women are completely separate from the other results and at the end of the day on the podium there will be the top 3 countries of the Motocross of European Nations and another podium with the top 3 countries winning the Women Motocross of European Nations. The proposal met the interest of the UEM President, who will submit to the Motocross & Snowcross Commission.
