With a series of spectacular jumps on his motorcycle in Sydney’s Botanical Garten, Australia’s Josh Sheehan got Sydney in the mood on Tuesday for the grand finale of the 2012 Red Bull X-Fighters season. Sheehan used the breathtaking backdrop in front of Sydney’s Harbour Bridge and the world famous Opera house to put on a scintillating exhibition of freestyle motocross ahead of Saturday’s final battle showdown for the championship of the $1 million Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour.

Sheehan, who dazzled the home crowd last year with the first and only victory of his young career, is hoping for another triumph against the world’s best FMX riders even though he is just coming back from an injury that forced him to miss much of the 2012 season.

The 2012 championship battle is the most exciting in the 12-year history of the sport with New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood and France’s Thomas Pages with equal points atop the standings. Defending champion Dany Torres of Spain is lurking close behind in third place and could end up winning the title on Cockatoo Island if the leaders falter as could Chile’s Javier Villegas, who is in fourth place but also capable of winning the 2012 title.
