Team Suzuki GB rider Dan Thornhill impressed spectators at his and the team’s most local event at the weekend, as the youngster took overall victory in the BSMA GT Cup held at Brookthorpe, Gloucester.

With two second place finishes from start to finish in motos one and two, and in the final race on Saturday a second placed gate that was eventually turned into another win, allowed the Suzuki rider to comprehensively stamp his authority on the day’s racing.

With such domination on Saturday, further success on Sunday looked inevitable, but with two laps to go in his first race of the day, Thornhill slipped off in a corner, causing damage to the RM-Z250. Quickly fixed, he continued, taking a well deserved second across the line.

In the final race of the weekend, Thornhill gated in second and while pushing for the lead again, took another spill. Back on the bike and gaining on the leader, Thornhill ran out of time and came just short of winning the race.

With consistent riding, and fellow rivals gaining lower positions, Thornhill came away with the overall win.

Paul Butler team manager commented, “Dan puts in 100% whereever he goes and its paid off here. His lap times which were less than a second off the open class shows he has the pace, and puts him in a good position going into the next round of the British Masters at Hawkstone Park this weekend.”
