Gas Gas’ Danny McCanney turned in a win and a runner-up placing in Romania at the weekend. Riding a Gas Gas CC300 he continues to dominate the Junior section of the 2011 European Enduro Championship after two rounds (of three). With a third outright on day two he also remains in contention for the overall title – in his debut year in the championship!

The young Manxman endured two very tough days racing in Romania, each day’s riding stretching to nearly eight hours, with well over 150km of trail plus extreme, motocross and enduro tests. All this in 38ºC heat!

McCanney’s results from the weekend read:

Day One: 2nd Junior E2/3, 14th Overall;

Day Two: 1st Junior E2/3, 3rd Overall.

McCanney comfortably leads the Junior E2/3 championship; in the overall championship classification – with 1-2-14-3 results over the four days so far – he’s second, just eight points off the leader.

Danny McCanney: “A long-haul event for the team travelling in the truck, although for me just a couple of flights! As ever Steve (Plain – team manager) had the job well sorted and I never had to think twice about my bike. I must say thanks too, to Kay and Marnie for manning the checks. Another great job all round.

“Both days were very long, on hard dusty trails, but there were plenty of hills and technical riding to keep the trail work from becoming boring. The heat was nothing like we have in Britain so I kept my drink pack filled! The tests were also long and fast but no problem for my CC300 Gas Gas. Same goes for the extreme test – it’s good on the trialsy stuff, too!”

Steve Plain, Gas Gas team manager : “Danny faced a tough challenge this weekend and he simply rose to it! I think he was disappointed with his overall result on Saturday but he came back so strong on Sunday, it was hard to believe he’d even ridden in the heat and torture of the day before. He was, again, dazzling. He’s really caught the attention of the Europeans, they want to know all about him, more and more!

“He’ll face a tougher test still at the final EUM round, which will be three days in France held September 16-18. The French are very strong on their home territory, but I’m sure Danny will find his feet. He’s an incredible talent!”
