Martians land at South Somerset

On the 27th of May South Somerset MXC held their 5th club champs at a new venue for the club at Rushmead Raceparks, Marshfield, near Bristol. With another good entry and the weekend forecast to be the hottest of the year so far, the sun was already high in the sky by 7.00 am. With this in mind, lots of water was added to the track ready for the days racing. With practice out of the way racing kicked off with MX1. Brad Cavill took three great wins, but he had to fight Bradley Wheeler in second and Anthony Milliar in third, all the way. Luke Heaver taking the fourth spot with Luke Saunders fifth, and having a great time by rounding off the top six was Shayne Headon screaming around on his KTM two stroke.

There was some great racing in MX2, Jordan Broadway could only be beaten once by second place rider Danny Jones, Olly Jones chased hard to third overall, Haydn Crocker fourth, Tony Bayliss fifth and Ashley Sheppard sixth.

The Rookies are always exciting to watch and on this occasion it was Jake Penny and Thomas Redmore that did exactly that. Penny taking the overall with two wins to Redmore’s one. Joshua Pitt took third spot, Josh Broadway fourth, Ryan Davis fifth and Connor Palmer having a good ride to take sixth.

The Rookie 125’s saw newly upgraded rider Jack Perkins take the overall a head of Ryan Harris, Joe Phillips, Charlie Page, Jordan Muscato and Dan Wheelan.

With the Big and Small wheel’s combined this saw Jack Roberts (BW) and Bradley Flagg (SW) have some great battles. Roberts went on to take the BW overall with Jamie Harris having a good debut ride on his 150 Honda in second, Callum Ford as consistent as ever in third, George Welch flying to fourth, Jack Sherwin fifth and Miles Jones topping off the top six.
Bradley Flagg having taken the small wheel win was followed by Lucy Calvert once again showing the boys how to do it for the second spot, Archie Hicks taking third after riding various bikes, Callum Gordon fourth, Casey Williams fifth after crashing hard in moto two and Dean Palmer sixth.

In the Juniors it was nice to see Conor Ford back from injury taking all three moto wins, Joe Garlick impressed by taking a great second ahead of the hard charging Morgan Timms in third, Jake Cooper fourth, Liam Gale fifth and Thomas Darlow in the sixth spot.

The Auto’s had a slightly shorter track to deal with and arguably saw some of the best racing with Jake Pascoe taking the overall, Finley Jai Truman took two moto wins but had to settle for second overall after only having a sixth place in moto 3, Alfie Calvert is showing some great form and took the third spot, Dylan Cadwallander won moto three but had to settle for fourth overall, Thomas Higman with three great rides took fifth and rounding off the top six was Tyler Westcott who rode out of his skin grabbing the holeshot in moto two and leading the pack for a few laps.

Another great days racing and thanks must be given to the Marshfield team for keeping the dust to an absolute minimum considering the very dry conditions. Can’t wait for rnd six at Little Silver on June 10th
