Jimmy Wicksell wins second consecutive Xtreme Academy Nordic Challenge

Last week’s Honda Racing Xtreme Academy Nordic Challenge was certainly an exciting one with great battles between CRF 150R riders from Denmark, Norway and Sweden at the Vargbergs track near Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Nordic Challenge, which took place following the success of last year’s inaugural event, is part of the Xtreme Academy programme, which is Honda’s initiative to help grow young riders aboard its CRF 150R machinery.

The race, in which youngsters from all over the Nordic region competed on similar machinery, was won by Swedish youngster Jimmy Wicksell, who secured two strong victories from two good starts. Niclas Carlsson also showed great speed but with crashes in both races he was unable to fulfill his potential and Emelie Dahl finished third in the first race, although a crash in the second heat meant she had to come back through from last to fifth for the final place on the podium.

Danish star Luke Ankjear put on a strong performance and was unlucky to finish on the podium this year, with great battles throughout the 30-strong field taking place between the Nordic riders. Awards were made to the winners with a substantial prize fund from Honda and its partners.

The Nordic challenge forms part of an important platform to grow young riders and introduce them to strong competition as they make the first step on the racing ladder. Events and championships are running in eight countries around Europe with youngsters benefiting from separate prize funds to their main national series,’ recognition as a Honda rider, training from former Grand Prix winner Brian Jorgensen and much more.

It has been good we can continue the Xtreme Academy Nordic Challenge for a second year with riders from all over the Nordic region taking part in what was another fantastic race for CRF 150R riders. I’d like to say a big thankyou to Honda Sweden and especially Patrik Erlandsson for helping us arrange this special event.”
