The opening round of the Redbull Pro Nationals turned out to be a tough day for the MX1 Route77energy MVR-D riders. Jason Dougan tried to ride after injuring his wrist last week but after just one lap of practice it was apparent it wasn’t going to happen. He will now see a specialist this week to see what can be done.
Team mate Gert Krestinov had a solid quali in 5th but on the final lap twisted his ankle and was struggling to put weight on it. After icing it and strapping it up he decided to ride but could only ride around steadily for a 9th and 8th which considering his discomfort was a brave ride.
Bradley Pocock the rookie of the Team rode well on the technical track. He got into a groove when many riders struggled. In the first race he didn’t start that well but made good progress before a crash halted his charge forward. He remounted though and after finding some good lines rode through to 9th in the MX2 class.
The second race Bradley didn’t have the best of starts but got through a group of riders on the opening lap and kept moving forward. He got has high as 6th MX2 rider before he tired but ended 9th. He showed his speed potential early on and his riding at times very impressive.
Gert Krestinov “I had planned to go home to Estonia tomorrow anyway so will see my doctor and check what I have done. It wasn’t an easy day and hopefully I can get fit for the next race.”
Bradley Pocock “I felt good today on the bike. I need some more bike fitness but I enjoyed myself and overall happy with my day.”
Mark Chamberlain “Its a concern that both the MX1 boys are hurt. We knew Jason would struggle but now for Gert to get hurt as well is frustrating. Hopefully it won’t be to bad and after seeing Doctors this week we will know what they both have to do. Bradley was great to watch today as he rode with real class at times.”
