The French fans turned out in their thousands today for Saturday’s qualifying races at St Jean D’Angely.
With so many French riders capable of winning the MX2 races the crowd made it known who they’re behind – Paulin, Musquin, Frossard and Charlier had the crowd whooping for more as Musquin and Paulin battled closely throughout the entire race.
Musquin said, “I had a good start and passed Herlings quickly. The track was a little dangerous and hard but hopefully that will be sorted for tomorrow. Paulin was fast even after he went down he came back and passed me.”
After months out with Injury Paulin proved that he’s back and keen to get back on the podium, “I feel 100% this week, Paulin explained after the race, “I knew that Marvin was fast but I felt great out there and loved support from the French fans.”
In MX1 Tony Cairoli had a bit of a shock off the start as Josh Coppins came hurtling passed on his Aprilia to take the hole shot.
“I had a good start but Josh came by real fast, Cairoli said. I started to brake late but Josh had a good line to pass me, the start is dangerous but hopefully they can sort for tomorrow. The heat here today in France is more humid than the USA but I like the heat and I hope myself and Boog can battle for the win tomorrow.”
The riders have mentioned that the track is dangerous maybe in certain parts but after speaking to the track people here they will water tonight but the forecast is rain so fingers crossed that doesn’t show.
One thing we’ve all noticed today is the crowd is HUGE for a Saturday, to put it in perspective it’s probably more here today than the British GP on the Sunday last year.
