Cycle for Huck - A day to remember

After competing in Grand Prix and British Motocross Championship events, Mark Hucklebridge is now facing another tough challenge as he battles to fight off cancer for the second time. With a little help from the ‘big motocross family’ though this is a race we all want Huck to win.

So rallying around to help Mark, his wife Emma and young son Charlie in what is obviously very worrying times, numerous methods of fund raising have been organised, the latest of which took place on Saturday 15th March. Having trained with the Huck, multi AMCA Champion Lee Dunham decided to stage an event titled ‘Cycle for Huck’ in which participants were asked to donate £20, cycle a 20 mile route and thus help send the Hucklebridge family on a well-deserved holiday.

With the event generally advertised through social media, the word quickly spread throughout the off-road world but even Mr Dunham must have then been astonished by the response as a phenomenal 385 cyclists arrived  at the starting point of the Marshfield motocross track to participate,in the process raising nearly £9,000.

The line-up not only included motocross stars such as Stephen Sword and Tom Church but also members of the local community both young and old, a fitting testament to what a smashing guy Mark Hucklebridge really is.

On cycles of various working order and types including tandoms, the cyclists set off in groups of forty members to tackle the Wiltshire roads. One participant who definitely deserved a special mention was former AMCA rider Mark Fox, paralysed in a race crash some 20 years ago he completed the route in a hand chair. Also doing their bit was Emma Hucklebridge and organiser Lee Dunham. Whilst Emma was able to ride a sporty racing bike, Lee ran the 20 mile course in preparation for his upcoming London Marathon debut.

Making it all possible, special thanks go to The Tuck Truck, Veloton Cycle Shop, Parme Entertainments, Hucklebridge Events, M.J Church, The Dunham family all of the route marshalls and of course the cyclists for your fantastic efforts. Plans are already being made to stage the ‘Cycle for Huck’ event again next year with Lee Dunham promising it will be even bigger and better.

Well done to MOTO’s Tom Radburn who managed to finish the 20 mile route after spending Friday at Cheltenham races – good effort fella.
