Italian company Alpinestars is a manufacturer of technical, high performance automotive and motorcycle racing and riding apparel. Founded in 1963 by leather craftsman Sante Mazzarolo in Asolo in the north of the country, it takes its name from the flower which grows high in the mountains in the Italian Alps.

The company soon launched a revolutionary motocross boot, which caught the attention of motocross legend Roger Decoster, one of Alpinestars’ first brand ambassadors and sponsored athletes. Having also enjoyed great success with other world champions such as Kenny Roberts and Mick Doohan, the 1990s saw the company branch out into manufacturing all types of technical protective gear for motorcycling, ranging from gloves and jackets to full leather suits.

The current Alpinestars motocross range features apparel, protection, tech layers and accessories, but it is footwear that still forms the centrepiece of its offering. There are currently 15 models of boot in the range, including the top-of-the-line RV2 Tech 10, described by the company as ‘the greatest motocross boot ever built’ and designed in partnership with three-time Supercross champion Ryan Villopoto.

Alpinestars’ motocross gear is used by numerous other AMA and World Motocross champions – as well as Villopoto, the company’s line-up of AMA MX/SX riders includes Justin Barcia, Marvin Musquin, Tyla Rattray, Eli Tomac and Trey Canard, while in the World Championship, Alpinestars riders include Gautier Paulin and David Philippaerts.
